FLORENCE, Ky. (Dec. 1, 2017) – Veteran jockey Perry Ouzts and Northern Ohio shipper Luckyallmylife upset the 32nd running of the $50,000 black type Holiday Inaugural Stakes at Turfway Park Friday, flying late to score at 27-1. She was 1 1/2 lengths better than fellow closer Miner’s Cat, with Marquee Cal Gal another half-length back in third after battling on the lead with Seeknthegiantpearl into deep stretch.

A 4-year-old filly trained by Robert Gorham, Luckyallmylife finished the six-furlong test over Polytrack in 1:09.85. She rewarded her backers with $57.60 to win, $22 to place and $10.60 to show in her first stakes win.

“She ran well, really well,” said Ouzts, who picked up the mount early in the card. “She laid about sixth or [eighth], just running kind of normal down the backside. Then I got to riding her into the turn and she grabbed that bridle and just took off running.”

Seeknthegiantpearl shot from the gate to blaze the first quarter in :21.53 and the half in :44.44 before Marquee Cal Gal caught her at the top of the stretch. Marquee Cal Gal appeared poised to get the trophy when both Luckyallmylife and Miner’s Cat shot past within the final half furlong.

Seeknthepearl stayed in for fourth, followed by 2-1 favorite Grace’s Treasure, Sweet N Wicked, Conquest City Girl, Tia Flor, Sarge’s Daughter, Fiesta, Delphinia and Sentence. One True Kiss and Tu Se Manques did not draw in and were scratched.

Owned by Henry Mast’s Mast Thoroughbreds LLC, Luckyallmylife is by Lookin at Lucky out of the Carson City mare Queen’s College and was bred in Kentucky by Stonehaven Steadings. The Holiday Inaugural victory improved her record to six wins, six seconds and four thirds in 20 starts for career purse earnings of $150,080.
