FLORENCE, Ky. (Nov. 30, 2017) – Denied the win in last year’s Holiday Inaugural Stakes by her full sister Marquee Miss, Marquee Cal Gal returns to Turfway Park Friday, Dec. 1, to contest the $50,000 black type race again. She will face a full gate of rivals in the 32nd running of the six-furlong race for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

Ten of Marquee Cal Gal’s 11 wins have come over all-weather surfaces, four have come at six furlongs and three have come at Turfway. In her six starts at the Northern Kentucky track she has never been worse than second. The 6-year-old mare last raced Oct. 20 in a Keeneland turf allowance, where she was beaten three lengths in finishing sixth. She has been training steadily at Keeneland and nine days ago breezed a bullet five furlongs in 1:01.20. Jon Court comes in to ride for trainer Phil Sims.

Grace’s Treasure was also sixth in her last outing, the Thoroughbred Club of America (G2) at Keeneland, but that tested her against the likes of multiple graded stakes winner Finley’sluckycharm and she broke poorly in the bargain. Two starts back she won the Open Mind Stakes at Churchill Downs by disqualification after finishing just a length behind in second. She is training extremely well, posting three straight bullet works in November at Trackside Training Center, but the Holiday Inaugural will be her first attempt on an all-weather surface. Trainer Michael Ann Ewing has tapped Jesus Castanon to ride.

Conquest City Girl ships from Woodbine, where three weeks ago she won at seven furlongs over the all-weather track, coming from off the pace in an optional allowance. She has been in the money in half of her 18 lifetime starts. Channing Hill has the call for trainer Mark Casse.

The Holiday Inaugural field from the rail out: Sarge’s Daughter (jockey C. J. McMahon, 120 lbs.); Sentence (Malcolm Franklin, 122); Seeknthegiantpearl (Hector Berrios, 119); Luckyallmylife (T. D. Houghton, 120); Conquest City Girl (Hill, 120); Tia Flor (Cesar Ordaz, 120); Delphinia (Ty Kennedy, 123); Marquee Cal Gal (Court, 120); Sweet N Wicked (Samuel Camacho Jr., 122); Miner’s Cat (Leandro Gonçalves, 120); Fiesta (Alex Canchari, 119); and Grace’s Treasure (Castanon, 124). Tu Se Manques and One True Kiss remain on the also-eligible list.

The Holiday Inaugural will run as the fifth of Friday’s eight races. First post is 6:15 p.m. ET.
