FLORENCE, KY . . . December 11, 2003 . . . After posting just one win last night, Rafael Bejarano returned to his four-a-night pattern at Turfway Park tonight. The 21-year-old Peruvian has racked up 23 wins, 17 seconds, and 6 thirds from 71 starts since the start of the track’s Holiday Meet on November 30.

Bejarano finished 11th of 12 in the first race and 2nd of 12 in the second race before running off three victories in a row. His mount in the third, the 9-5 favorite Lady Shelley, drew away in the stretch to win by 7 1/2 lengths, covering the six furlongs in 1:13.09.

In the fourth race, Bejarano was aboard Suleiman, the bettors’ third choice at 3-1. He was ahead by 5 lengths at the stretch and drew off to win by 11 1/2. Suleiman finished the mile course in 1:38.97.

Bejarano rode the favorite again in the fifth race, bringing home Hymns of Glory to win by 1 1/4 lengths. The horse had the lead by the 1/4 mile-mark and never let it go, covering the six furlongs in 1:14.20.

The jockey’s fourth win on the night came when he guided Fashionable Kim to a 4-length win in the night’s feature, a $25,400 allowance race over one mile. The three-year-old filly finished the course in 1:39.40.

The Turfway track was rated muddy all night.

The night began with a healthy payoff when 37-1 shot R B women won the opener by 5 1/4 lengths under jockey Orlando Mojica. It was the two-year-old filly’s maiden win, her first victory in six tries.

Bejarano will ride Ask the Lord in Saturday’s feature race, the $50,000 Prairie Bayou Stakes. Racing continues at Turfway Park tomorrow through Sunday. Post time is 5:30 p.m. EST tomorrow and 1:10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. General admission and parking are free.
