Bejarano wins four . . . again

FLORENCE, KY . . . December 5, 2003 . . . For the second rainy night in a row, Rafael Bejarano tonight notched four wins from nine mounts at Turfway Park.

It looked to be all Rafael, all the time as Bejarano spun off three wins in a row to start the evening. He was aboard Mystic Sword, the 5-2 favorite, in the first race, a $7,500 maiden claiming event over 6 furlongs. Winning margin was 3 1/4 lengths. The winner paid $7.60, $5.20, and $4.20.

Race 2, a $12,000 maiden claiming race, ended with Bejarano’s mount first by 1 1/2 lengths. Two-year-old Brilliant Beau paid $4.00, $3.00, and $2.60 for his pace-setting work over 6 furlongs. He was the even-money favorite.

Shelly’s Pride gave Bejarano his third consecutive win on the night. The filly, off as the 3-5 favorite in the $8,200 claiming race, was ahead by 1 1/4 lengths at the wire. Her win for the 6-furlong effort paid $3.20, $2.40, and $2.40.

Bejarano’s fourth win on the night came in the ninth race aboard Lethal Temper, the favorite at 2-1. The $26,900 allowance race, the night’s feature, covered one mile. Winning margin was again 3 1/4 lengths, and the winner paid $6.20, $3.20, and $2.60.

Bejarano also had three seconds on the night, in the fifth, sixth, and seventh races. Over the first four days of the Holiday Meet, he has 11 winners from 37 mounts.

Racing continues at Turfway tomorrow with 12 races on the card, including the $50,000 My Charmer Stakes. Post time is 1:10 p.m. EST.
